Amigotel (now Anchor Hotel) & Wet Market in General Santos

One of the least expensive lodging options in General Santos City is Amigotel, now renovated and named Anchor Hotel. Located at Cagampang Extension, it provides easy access to public transport and malls. The hotel photos here are outdated, so please visit their website to see their new features.

Room rates are very affordable, while amenities include only bath soap. On our first night, we took the bigger matrimonial room at Php 610/night. The building and fixtures are old but clean.

Our room was not yet available when we arrived at 7:00 am, so we just left our luggages first on the front desk. All the staff are helpful and friendly.

However, there was a problem on its aircon unit, so on our second night we transferred to the smaller matrimonial room for Php 560/night. Anyway, they are quick to provide a stand fan for us, while they are having their anniversary party downstairs.

During our second day at the city, we tried their breakfast meals which are priced reasonably and good enough.

Outside the hotel are tricycles which charge Php 8 fare per person to the malls.

A few steps further and there's a drugstore. On the left corner is a grocery shop, while the wet market is just across the street. I bought a kilogram of lanzones that time for about Php 50/kg, sourced from Kidapawan City.

Dried seafoods in GenSan are expensive, if compared with Pagadian and Cebu prices. Whole bangus (milkfish) costs Php 90/kg, while the belly-less cut costs Php 60/kg. Tunaloin are understandably cheap at Php 180/kg, while ripe mangoes are sold at Php 50/kg.

The hotel is a convenient jump off point to Sarangani and South Cotabato points of interest. If asking for directions and transport options, their security guard "doubles" as their concierge, hehe. He's very knowledgeable on where to get a ride, time of first & last trips, etc.
